Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti
CASA DELLO SPIRITO
E DELLE ARTI
Fondazione San Gennaro

World - renowned singer-songwriter STING has joined with the director TRUDIE STYLER, to support the "Metamorphosis" a cultural and educational project of the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti Foundation.

A few months ago, Sting performed in the Secondigliano prison in Naples, using unique musical instruments recovered from migrant boats and built by incarcerated individuals of Milano and Naples.

9 incarcerted individuals and 5 master luthiers are employed here, the beneficiaries of our fundraising.

In a virtuous cycle of regeneration with Metamorphosis, the wood from the boats of migrants is transported from the Favarolo pier in Lampedusa to some Italian prisons and is then transformed into musical instruments.

These become an ideal vehicle for reflection on the human condition and on all the people forced to flee from wars, persecution, and hunger. They also become a tool for social and employment reintegration for incarcerated individuals involved in the artistic work along with luthiers and carpenters.

There are 100 boats from Lampedusa that have reached the Casa di Reclusione Milano - Opera and the Secondigliano prison in Naples, where the project took shape with the collaboration of the Comunità San Gennaro Foundation, giving rise to a carpentry/luthier workshop within the prison.

Exactly here, the iconic artist Sting, who was given the first guitar made in the prison, performed during the filming of the documentary "Posso entrare? (May I enter?) An Ode to Naples", directed by Trudie Styler, (produced by Big Sur, Mad Entertainment in collaboration with Rai Cinema and co-produced with Luce Cinecittà). He delivered a moving rendition of "Fragile" with the "Quartetto del Mare". The making of the video was supported by the Con il Sud Foundation and numerous prestigious artists who donated their art for free.

"Metamorphosis" is a project of the Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti implemented in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo, Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione Peppino Vismara, Fondazione della Comunità di Monza e Brianza, in collaboration with the Department of Penitentiary Administration and the Agency of Excise, Customs, and Monopolies.
